nobody's sure where mr. knickerbocker's at

so...what's new?

i'm listening to tom waits on my tivo, streamed from my powerbook over my wireless network. which is neat. i still haven't gotten around to hacking the tivo to do anything niftier with its network connection, but at least i can use the tivo website to schedule recordings from work.

the old dell computer that houses my web site crapped out again. it just kinda shut itself off, and won't turn back on. it did this about a month ago, and i thought i fixed it by just leaving unplugged for an hour or so. apparently fixing my computer will involve more than just unplugging it. go figure. i haven't really bothered to figure out what's wrong with it, but i should fix it instead of just buying a new computer. because it's cheaper that way, and then i can get my photos back online.

since apparently this has turned into a list of crap i haven't gotten around to yet, i haven't done anything to my truck, peanut, lately. i tried to start her a couple of weeks ago to see if she fits in the garage of this house i'm renting, but the battery was dead so i gave up and went to watch tv. i bought a floor jack and some jack stands and a battery charger/starter and a shop light and a thingy to hold oil, so i'm all ready to do stuff. i think the order of crap i need to do on peanut is: 1) clean up the engine compartment to make it easier to find stuff and so i don't get all super dirty, 2) charge the battery, 3) do a compression test to see if there's any leaking between the cylinders, 4) unscrew a bunch of stuff and get at the head gasket to see if it's cracked, 5) replace the head gasket and do whatever else needs to be done to keep the coolant from leaking into the oil, 6) remove, clean, and re-seal the oil pan so it doesn't leak oil all over the damn place. sounds pretty easy, when i write it like that.

the gas heater in my house does this really annoying thing where the fan turns on after the heater's turned off for like 45 seconds, then turns off, then turns on again for like 30 seconds, then off, then on 20 seconds, then off, then on 10 seconds, then off. every damn time the heater runs it does this. i'm finally emailing my landlady about this right...now. alright.

my best friend molly just got back from london. and so did chloe. they both had excellent times and want to go back. i wouldn't mind going back to london myself. i am going to new zealand in less than a month. i've done pretty much no planning whatsoever for this trip, and i think i'm fine with that. i'm going to meet emma in dunedin at some point during the trip, and i'm going to try to cross paths with erik and his girlfriend emily, who will be on some kind of adventure tour thing.

my wonderful friend juniper was in town last weekend for an interview at my company. i think she'd make an excellent addition to our team, and that she'd thoroughly enjoy working here as much as i do. we spent saturday running around town checking out the sights, including pike place market, the scifi museum, and the space needle. it's neat when friends come to visit because that gives me an excuse to do touristy crap like that. i hadn't been to the top of the space needle until this weekend. then we went to hear some excellent local techno dj's and meet up with chloe and seth and kevin and his girlfriend. after chloe and seth went home, we took kevin and his girlfriend and went to this crazy party just around the corner from juniper's hotel. it was filled with crazy burning man people and russians and a dj was playing some excellent psy-trance. then the fire alarm went off. we went around the corner for some hot dogs. after the firefighters cleared the alarm and the party started back up, the dj had left. some dude was playing his cds, but he had no idea how to operate the mixer or the cdj-1000's, so kevin jumped behind the decks and played the other dj's psy-trance cds until about 4am. it was all pretty funny since kevin didn't know any of the music and doesn't usually play psy-trance. then he threw on some massive attack and we all called it a night. a good time was had by all. and now kevin's nickname is "dj glowsticks."

i should go to bed now. oh, and i've been spending far too much time hanging out on friendster, and i just joined myspace since my sister said it's cooler than friendster. and i asked out this girl who i found on friendster because she went to high school in omaha and college in colorado and moved to seattle this year, just like me.

that's my story, and i'm sticking to it.
