chew on this
i finally brought my tivo in to work yesterday to get it all set up. now, even though the tivo can use the internet to keep up with tv listings and whatnot, the initial setup has to be done with a phone line. i don't have a phone line at home, so i had to use the fax line at work. but the tivo also needs a television signal in order to configure itself properly. so yesterday, i went through the 20-minute setup process, but had to stop when it said it needed a tv signal, since there are no rabbit ears or cable boxes at work.
today, though, i brought in some rabbit ears that i had lying around the house. i went through the whole setup process again, only to find out that the tivo needs to chew on the data it downloaded for 4-8 hours. seriously. so now it's sitting under the fax machine, chewing. or ruminating, to use a $5 word.
i'm currently converting an episode of south park that i had on my hard drive in avi format to avi/divx in 160x160 resolution so i can watch it on my treo. just because. although if it works, i might make up some treo-format movies to watch on the flight to new zealand in november. if i decide to bring the treo, that is. haven't decided yet.
