enginerd.
i was just reminded of what was probably the first moment i knew i wanted to be an engineer. well, i didn't really realize that i knew it at the time, but some part of my brain recognized it.
anyway, it was when i was very small. i don't remember how small. my parents had bought a crib; i don't remember if it was mine or my sister's. it was the kind that had one side that you could lift up about an inch, which would cause a little mechanism to unlatch, allowing you to lower the side down to the ground so parents wouldn't have to reach over the side of the crib to pick up the kid. just a simple little mechanism, but i found it extremely fascinating. i seem to remember spending quite a bit of time playing with the crib to figure out how the thing worked.

This is from Tim's Mom:
This must have been your sister's crib. I don't recall you inspecting it, though. I do remember your refusal to go on the merry-go-round because you were sure that, as the animals went up and down, your hand would get caught in the mechanism. This is an example of a time when you needed to get closer to inspect it but didn't.
Love, Mom
Ah yes, I still remember, back when I was about 3 years old, asking my mom what she thought would be the most effective way to go about helping a public radio station raise money. Memories... ;)
