expedition

i've just found out that the discovery channel has a new special called alien planet (link goes to flash video thing) that looks all kinds of awesome. it's based on the book expedition, being an account in words and artwork of the 2358 a.d. voyage to darwin iv, by famed sci-fi painter wayne douglas barlowe.
it was one of my favorite books for years when i was younger. it's more or less the tale of a naturalist who explores an alien planet with strange and interesting life-forms that mostly use sonar instead of vision as their primary sense. the book is filled with sketches and paintings and whatnot depicting these creatures, and it's just fantastic.
