e pur si muove!
"and still it moves!" okay, so that was galileo's last words as he was being burned at the stake, but it applies here. i've been trying for the past 3 days to get my new ceiling fan to work. i figured it'd be pretty simple -- run a line from an existing switch up to the fan mounting box, pull power from that switch, and mount the fan in the ceiling. no such luck. i managed to get the one circuit to stop working, had my roommate's brother, an electrician, come out to the house to fix that circuit and give me some more ideas. next, i found a circuit to pull power to the fan, hooked everything up, and . . . nothing. the fan kept tripping the gfi breaker on the circuit i had chosen. so . . . today i picked a different circuit, this one feeding power to the furnace blower, called drew's brother to make sure it was an okay circuit to pick, and hooked it all up. and now, it works.
and during all this, drew's cat pascal figured out how to climb the ladder and leap into the attic, so he had a nice tour of the attic, insulation and all. of course this had to result in drew washing all of the insulation off of pascal in his shower, which led to some very strange noises coming from the cat in the shower.
