and a lovely saturday it was

today was a good day.

a while back, i bought a nifty piece of art from this guy, jason sho green. he just closed the show where i bought the piece, so i went down to the fremont district to pick it up this morning. this is what i bought:

jason's stuff is awesome. his workshop was in this little boutique/coffee shop right next to the huge lenin statue in fremont. the shop, called "m:pulse," seemed pretty cozy, and it was being visited by a little cat with the softest fur ever, so i decided to have a cup of coffee and a carrot cake muffin for breakfast there. i read an article in the seattle weekly about former seattle chief of police norm stamper, who just published a book called breaking rank: a top cop's expose of the dark side of american policing. the book sounded intriguing, so i've just one-clicked it on amazon, along with amazon's suggestions for freakonomics: a rogue economist explores the hidden side of everything and collapse: how societies choose to fail or succeed (curse you, amazon suggestions).

after that nice relaxing breakfast, i went back home to work on my truck peanut for most of the day. i took apart the fuel system and got most of the way through building one working carburetor out of parts of two non-working ones, thoroughly soaking myself in gasoline several times along the way.

around 6ish, i put my tools and truck away and cleaned myself up. i went out to buy some more parts for peanut, as well as some groceries. then i went down to capitol hill to meet my friends seth and chloe for excellent thai food at a restaurant called "siam." during dinner i exchanged a few text messages with molly, who i'm excited to say will be visiting seattle very soon. i had a very tasty pad see yew, and afterward we went to chloe's favorite coffee shop in all of seattle, vivace, which is this little hole-in-the-wall place on capitol hill. their coffee was indeed very good.

then i came home to drink my coffee and finish reading angela's ashes. my mom had given me the book some time ago, and i'd only started reading it a few days ago. it's a fantastic book -- mccourt's style of prose carries the voice of a young irish storyteller very well.

and now it's time for bed.
